Mahasu Devta Temple is Located on the Tuini-Mori road at Hanol, Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand,India .The temple is dedicated to Mahashiv,The mahasu devta temple has been declared as the fifth dham of uttrakhand.It is the ancient temple of Mahasu Devta built in the 9th century. The temple was constructed in Kath-Kuni or Koti-Banal style of architecture. It is included in the Archaeological Survey of India list of the ancient temple in the Dehradun circle, Uttarakhand.

Hanol is named after the Brahmin Huna Bhatt. This temple is located 190km from Dehradun and 156km from Massoorie,It is believed that in the Mahasu Devta temple, whoever asks for anything with a sincere heart, then Mahasu Devta definitely fulfills his wish.Mahasu Devta is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva.Mahasu means Mahashiva who became Mahasu after being disillusioned.Mahasu Devta is the collective name of not one but four gods, these four brothers are Mahasu, whose names are Basik Mahasu, Pbasi Mahasu, Botha Mahasu, Chalda Mahasu who are in the form of Lord Shiva.There are two balls of Sisa in this temple, which give a feeling of the power of Bhima, who is believed that Bhima used them to play the bells. Whose weight is 6man (240kg) the other’s 9man (360kg).

It is definitely small in size but it becomes difficult to lift them, it is believed that only people with a sincere heart can lift them.This temple is believed to be a temple built by the Pandavas, it is said that it is believed to be a temple built by the Pandavas, it is said that in the era by the Pandavas, the Pandavas came to this place after coming out of the Lakshagriha safely.Devotees are not allowed to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the temple of Mahasu Devta, only the priest of the temple can enter the temple. this thing is stilla mystery. A stream of water also originates in the Garb Griha of the temple, but where it originates and where it goes is unknown.

According to the legend, a Brahmin named Hunabhat worshiped Lord Shiva and Shakti in order to get rid of the people of the area from the terror of the demon named Kirmik, due to which Lord Shiva was pleased and four brothers Mahasu were born and Mahasu Devta killed the Kirmik demon. After killing the regional people, they got freedom from the terror of this monster, since then people started worshiping Mahasu Devta as their total deity.Mahasu is considered the god of justice in uttarakhand.
