Char Dham Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage in India, encompassing Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath for spiritual enlightenment.
Short Itinerary
Total Duration – : 9 days/ 8 nights
Day 01 – Haridwar – Barkot, (210 km / Approx. 8 hours drive)
Day 02 – Barkot – Yamunotri – Barkot, (36 km / Approx. 1 hour drive & 6 kms Trek (one side)
Day 03 – Barkot – Uttarkashi, (100 km / Approx. 4 hours drive)
Day 04 – Uttarkashi – Gangotri – Uttarkashi, (100 km/Approx. 3-4 hours drive each side)
Day 05 – Uttarkashi – Guptkashi (220 kms / Approx. 8-9 hours drive)
Day 06 – Guptkashi – Phata – Kedarnath – Guptkashi, (30 kms by road & 19kms Trek )
Day 07 – Guptkashi– Badrinath, (200 kms / Approx. 7 hours drive)
Day 08 – Badrinath to Rudraprayag (150 kms 05 hrs)
Day 09 – Rudraprayag – Devprayag to Haridwar (140 kms / Approx. 4hours drive)
About Char Dham
Yamunotri – The westernmost shrine of Yamunotri is one of the most visited shrine in Char Dham Package which is situated near the source of the river Yamuna. The Yamunotri temple, built by King of Tehri Garhwal, Maharaja Pratap Shah, is located on the left bank of the river Yamuna. The river is considered as a divine mother and a goddess for all the Hindus and has been an eminent part in the development of the civilization in the north India.
Gangotri – Gangotri Dham is situated on the banks of river Bhagirathi at an elevation of almost 3200 m above sea level and respected as one of the most sacred and holy shrines for the Hindus. Gangotri has an important place in the Char Dham Package. The Gaumukh Glacier, known as the source of the river Ganges is situated on a trek route from Gangotri. The tourists who wish to visit Gaumukh Glacier need Government permission.
Kedarnath – Kedarnath temple considered as the holiest pilgrimage among the most worshipped pilgrimages for the Hinduism followers. There are twelve Jyotirlingas of the Lord Shiva and Kedarnath is one of those twelve Jyotirlingas, situated near the source of the river Mandakini at an elevation of 3585 m above sea level. To visit this temple there is a trek route of 14 km from Gaurikund. However, the temple can also be visited by a helicopter ride which starts from Phata. This temple is situated at the highest place of the Char Dham Package and has a very low oxygen level.
Badrinath – The most famous and the most visited dham among the Chardham is Badrinath which is also known as Badri Vishal, the fourth dham. With the Neelkanth peak in the background, it is located between Nar and Narayan peaks. Badrinath is the most venerated and the largest among the five Badris also called as the Panch Badri. Badrinath is one the Char Dham (four dhams) of India established by Adi Guru Shankracharya.
Detailed Itineary
Day 01 – Haridwar – Barkot, (210 km / Approx. 8 hours drive)
Temperature of Barkot (Summer 25-30 and winter 05 to 10 Degree Celsius)
Pick up from Haridwar Railway station and drive to Barkot Check into the hotel arrival in Barkot. Overnight stay at the Barkot.
Day 02 – Barkot – Yamunotri – Barkot, (36 km / Approx. 1 hour drive & 6 kms Trek (one side)
Early morning after breakfast drive to Jankichatti / Phoolchatt & trek start from here to Yamunotri (6kms). Mules are also available from here. (Mules or by Doli at own cost). After taking bath in Jamunabai Kund’s warm water and having “Darshan” of “Yamuna ji “. Drive back to Barkot, Overnight stay at Barkot.The temple is part of the revered Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. One can cook rice by packing it in a cloth and dipping it in the hot water of the Taptkund. Pilgrims take this cooked rice home as “Prasad”. Here near the temple “Pooja” can be offered to DivyaShila. The surya kund has its own important near spring around the temple.
Day 03 – Barkot – Uttarkashi, (100 km / Approx. 4 hours drive)
Weather – In summer 30 to 35 and winter 05 to 10 Degree Celsius, After having morning breakfast, we will drive to Uttarkashi and Check into the hotel arrival in Uttarkashi. In Uttarkashi there is oldest Shivji temple “Kashi-ishwanath”. Visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Uttarkashi. Overnight stay at Uttarkashi.
Vishwanath temple – Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Uttarkashi. Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple is situated on the banks of Bhagirathi River. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This river comes from Gangotri Dham. The magnificent and picturesque landscapes of the mountains can be seen around the temple. It was re-constructed in 1857 by Maharani Khaneti Devi of Tehri State in the ancient architectural style.
Day 04 – Uttarkashi – Gangotri – Uttarkashi, (100 km/Approx. 3-4 hours drive each side)
Weather in Summer – 10 to 20 and winter 0 to 3 degree Celsius.
Please take Light woolen clothes are required while visiting Gangotri during summer. Early morning drive to Gangotri, enroute at Gangnani. Basically known for hot water kund. You take a holy dip in GaramKund, and have breakfast. Now we will drive to Bhagirathi valley to Gangotri via beautiful Harsil Valley. Harsil is best tourist destination and famous for its nature beauty and for the majestic views of the Deodar trees and mountains. The temple was constructed by the Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa in the 18th Century, is situated on the right bank of Bhagirathi. Ganges which is also called Bhagirathi at its origin. Perform Pooja and Darshan, after that relax for some time in the lovely surroundings. Later drive back to Uttarkashi. Overnight stay at Uttarkashi.
Day 05 – Uttarkashi – Guptkashi (220 kms / Approx. 8-9 hours drive)
Weather – In Summer 20 – 25 and in winter heavy snowfall.
Morning after breakfast, drive to Guptkashi via Moolgarh & Lambgoan. Guptkashi is in Rudraprayag district, in between you can see the beautiful river Mandakini at Tilwara. The valley is known as mandakini valley as it is originate from the Kedranath. Enroute visit to Ardh Narishwar Temple in Guptakashi. Check into the hotel arrival in Guptakashi. Overnight stay at Guptakashi.
Guptakashi – The name Guptkashi means “Hidden Benares. It was known that when Pandava were searching for a glimpse of Shiva, after Mahabharta , Shivji first hidden himself at this place, Shiva was not willing to meet them since he was annoyed with them for the unjust events of the war. He, therefore, avoided meeting them at Kashi and went incognito as the bull Nandi to Guptakashi in Uttarakhand. When Bhima, the second Pandava brother tried to hold the bull by its tail and hind legs, Nandi vanished from Guptakashi, into the ground (into a cave for hiding), but reappeared later as Shiva in five different forms namely, hump at Kedarnath, face at Rudranath, arms at Tungnath, navel and stomach at Madhyamaheshwar and the locks at Kalpeshwar.
Day 06 – Guptkashi – Phata – Kedarnath – Guptkashi, (30 kms by road & 19kms Trek )
Weather – In Summer 20 – 25 and in winter heavy snowfall.
In morning you will see the High Himalayas. After having your breakfast go kedarnath. Perform Pooja and Darshan Kedanrath & back to your hotel at Guptkashi. Overnight stay at the hotel Guptkashi. From Guptakashi you will go to helipad and By Helicopter to Kedranath temple. Chopper will be pre book Helipad. After Back our car will drop you at hotel for rest.
By Trek – Morning our driver will drop you at Sonprayag then you have to take local jeep for Gourikund & then your trek start for kedarnathji. After darshan you follow same & back to Sonpraag. There is big parking issue so driver will back other palace if his contact no. in not working then you has to arrange other taxi or wait for your driver & send the massage any other driver.
Kedarnath – Among the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva one is Kedarnath shrine. The temple, at a height of 3,583 m (11,755 ft), The name “Kedarnath” means “the lord of the field”: it derives from the Sanskrit words kedara (“field”) and natha (“lord”). The text Kashi Kedara Mahatmya states that it is so called because “the crop of liberation” grows here Kedar is another name of Lord Shiva. After Mahabhatara the legends Pandavas was felt guilty for killing their own siblings, so they want the blessings of Lord Shiva for redemption. He eluded them repeatedly and while fleeing took refuge at Kedarnath in the form of a bull. On being followed he dived into the ground, leaving his hump on the surface. The remaining portions of Lord Shiva appeared at four other places and are worshipped there as his manifestations. The arms appeared at Tungnath, the face at Rudranath, the belly at Madhmaheshwar and his locks (hair) with head at Kalpeshwar. Kedarnath and the four above-mentioned shrines are treated as PanchKedar.
Day 07 – Guptkashi– Badrinath, (200 kms / Approx. 7 hours drive
Weather – In Summer 20 – 25 and in winter heavy snowfall
Today after breakfast we will drive to our last Badrinath dham. Check in to the hotel arrival in Badrinath. Take bath in tapkund then have the Darshan of Badrivishal & Aarti in evening dinner overnight stay at the hotel badrinath.
Badrinath – Badrinath was re-established as a major pilgrimage site by Adi Shankara in the 7th century. The picture town of Badrinath is where divinity meets with the serenity of nature. Located in the Chamoli district in Uttarakhand at the height of 3,133 meters, the pre-eminent abode of Lord Vishnu is one of the holiest of the holy shrines of Char Dham pilgrimage in India. Other Char Dham sites include Dwarka, Puri and Rameswaram. Badri refers to a berry that was apparently said to grow abundantly in the area, and nathmeans “Lord” / “Lord of” as per context in which it is referred. Badri is also the Sanskrit name for the Indian Jujube tree In earlier days, pilgrims used to walk hundreds of miles to visit Badrinath temple.
Day 08 – Badrinath to Rudraprayag (150 kms 05 hrs)

After breakfast, and visiting Brahamakapal is significant for PinddanShraddh of ancestors (Pitrus). There are other interesting sightseeing spot like Mana, Vyas Gufa, Maatamoorti, Charanpaduka, Bhimkund and the “Mukh” of the Saraswati River. Later drive to rudraprayag ata arrival check in to hotel evening dinner overnight stay at the hotel.
ManaVillage – Inhabited by an Indo-Mongolian tribe, it is the last Indian village before Tibet. Vasundhara : As the name suggests, vasundhara is a magnificent water fall. This place is 5 kms. fromBadrinath out of which 2 kms. ismotorableuptoMana.
BhimPul – On the other side of Mana village, a massive rock forming a natural bridge, lies over the roaring Saraswati river. It presents a spectacular view of water thundering down through the narrow passage under the rock and is believed to have been placed there by Bhim, the second eldest among the five Pandava brothers.
VyasGufa (cave) – Near Mana Village, this is a rock-cave where VedVyas is believed to have composed the Mahabharata and the pauranic commentaries.
Day 09 – Rudraprayag – Devprayag to Haridwar (140 kms / Approx. 4hours drive)
After Morning we will drive for Haridwar. Later drive to Haridwar / station / home / hotel.In between you can see the Maa Ganga in Devprayag where Alaknanda and Bhagirathi congregate to foam River Ganga .
